Industries Home / industries We proudly service the local commercial Fishing Industry With over 60 years’ experience in the commercial fishing fleet. Hike metals location on the north shore of Lake Erie makes it the ideal location for the commercial fishing industry. With our 100 ton travel lift we are able to pull most every fish tug operating in the great lakes for service and inspection. Our lifting facilities are on standby 24/7 for any vessel related emergency that may arrive. We also have complete dockside facilities for all refit and repairs not requiring the vessel to be pulled out. Full 4 year hull inspections often take place at Hike Metal as the preferred yard by Transport Canada for this work. Hike metal have a full staff of professionals from hydraulics, electronics, and electrical to metal fab, machinery work, and repainting. Prior to the pedestrian tunnel’s opening in July 2015, Billy Bishop Airport was only accessible by ferry. The 90-second ferry ride is one of the shortest scheduled ferry rides in the world and travels across the 400-foot-wide Western Gap on Lake Ontario. The airport is primarily serviced by the Marilyn Bell I, which was put into service in 2010.
