Pilot boat
Grandes Eaux
This Custom Built Pilot Boat, commissioned as the “Grandes Eaux” demonstrates some of the latest technology and safety features being designed and built by Hike Metal Products for modern pilot boats, such as deck- and hand-rail heating to avoid ice build up, a stern-mounted hydraulic lift to aid in overboard passenger recovery, and neoprene fenders to cushion impacts during pilot transfers to name just a few. The twin Caterpillar 950 hp C32 ACERT Diesel engines bring this pilot boat up on a plane to 25 knots quickly. The engines were integrated with a Multi-Station Control System (MSCS) to provide shift and throttle response from both the bridge, and an exterior control station for close quarters maneuvering in rough weather. The Custom Built Pilot Boat operates from Les Escoumins and transfers pilots to and from ships along the mighty St. Lawrence River.
